We also deliver services to disabled people remotely through a strategy called Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR). The main aim of CBR is to reach people who are not able to come out of their house.
CBR combines the efforts of disabled people, their families and communities with appropriate health, education, vocational and social services. This approach effectively reaches the largest number of persons with disabilities utilizing locally sourced resources from the community and involving disabled persons and their caregivers in the whole rehabilitation process.
Our community workers operate in six districts of Jammu & Kashmir and coordinate their activities through our District Information and Coordination Centres (DICC).
HDC’s CBR activities include:
- Diagnosis and referral
- Awareness-raising regarding disability issues
- Early intervention and prevention
- Distributing mobility aids
- Setting up peer support groups
