World Disability Day Celebrated in Kupwara and Ganderbal

World Disability Day Celebrated in Waybill

Hope Disability Centre and Handicap International jointly celebrated World Disability Day yesterday in Wayil, Ganderbal District. World Disability Day was begun in 1982 by the United Nations, and is celebrated around the world. The objective of World Disability Day is to promote the rights of disabled people by including them in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. Globally, one in every 10 people lives with a disability. It is estimated that there are 600 million disabled people worldwide. The Hope Disability Centre was founded to support the thousands of disabled people and children in Kashmir.
During the celebration, 20 disabled children joined with 30 able-bodied children in games,  artistic activities,  songs and speeches.
Attendees also included: Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Ganderbal District Social Welfare Officer, Tashail Social Welfare Officer, District Officer Women’s Development,  CO 5RR Ganderbal, Captain 5RR Ganderbal, Headmistriss Government  Boys Middle School Wayil, Principal Sultan Arifeen School Wayil, Dr Fahim and Dr. Tufail from Government Medical Centre.Rising Kashmir newspaper reported on Hope Centre's joint celebration of World Disability Day with Handicap International. ALTSO Funds Kupwara Outreach Centre

We are very happy to announce that A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) has funded the building of a rehabilitation centre in Kupwara, near the Pakistan border.  Construction will begin in early 2010.
